Past Events

CJE thanks you sincerely for attending our  Canada 150 Events recorded below.
We enjoyed your visit with us and hope you enjoyed your visit with us!

Dear Friends and Supporters of CJE,

The Canadian Jewish Experience and Library and Archives Canada cordially invite you to its book launch.

During 2017, Canada’s 150th anniversary year, an inspired team of Jewish Canadians set out to celebrate the country and the many contributions of its Jewish citizens. They created a panel exhibition entitled “The Canadian Jewish Experience (CJE): A Tribute to Canada” that travelled from coast to coast, alongside many outreach activities and a website that enables ongoing discovery and research.

Many of you appear in this book in photo image or print.

Refreshments will be served.

CJE at Saint John Jewish Historical Museum
Saint John, NB
May 1 to November 2, 2018

The Canadian Jewish Experience Exhibit was on display in the Saint John Jewish Historical Museum from May 1 to November 2, 2018. Although no official opening event is planned, SJJHM has already received a positive response from the visitors who have come through the building during our first month of the season, some even finding familiar names and faces and making and sharing connections with the material presented.

To accompany the exhibit, the Saint John Jewish Historical Museum (SJJHM) has added a modest display of artifacts and photos from its own collection to connect the Canadian experience to that of the Jews in Saint John.

Hi Tova,

I wanted to quickly share these pictures from the CJE exhibition opening we hosted at the Dallas JCC .

The event went really well!

Two additional organisations asked about coordinating with us to host the exhibition, which is fantastic. It will be in this multipurpose room at the JCC for two weeks right next to the building entrance. Visitors will be allowed to walk through when a class is not using the room, and the panels will be on display for the classes and activities taking place in the room, so it should be seen by a nice-sized audience.

Best,
Erin

CJE in Tel Aviv, Israel

Dear Tova,

We have lots of good news regarding the exhibit.

First, we have set it up in the Official Residence in Tel Aviv and today the Ambassador hosted 30 guests (many ambassadors) who all had a chance to see it. I have attached a photo of how it looks there.

The HESEG House on Rothschild will host it next and they are very excited about it.

We also have just received word that the Foreign Affairs department at the Knesset is in the process of confirming the exhibit for the spring.

Thank you again for thinking of us for this important exhibit and we will continue to send you photos from all the venues.

Best,

Hi Tova.

My name is Costa Maragos – Spokesperson at the University of Regina.

The CJE is now on display at the U of R. It looks great. Very informative and nicely presented.
I wish to write a brief story to appear on the University’s home page. I have enough information about the project for sure. I wish however to receive a comment from a CJE representative about this exhibit.

What do you hope visitors will get out of this exhibit?

Or. Whatever else you care to add relating to this exhibit.

I think that’s it for now.

Thank you for considering this request.

Best,
Costa Maragos

Costa,

Thanks for your comments and opportunity for CJE to contribute. Hope following meets your needs.

The CJE exhibit was created to accomplish three objectives: first, to honour Canada on its 150th Birthday; second, to inform Canadians from all religious traditions about the challenges faced by Canadian Jews in integrating into Canada and the significant contributions Jews have made to the growth of Canada in a wide variety of areas; and, third by telling the story of one religious group to contribute to the strengthening of religious tolerance in Canada. We hope visitors to the exhibit will come away with a new appreciation for how Canada has grown as a nation built on the contributions from many religious and ethnic groups.

Have a great weekend.

Thanks again,
Tova Lynch

CJE Exhibit at Mount Allison University

Dear Edna and Tova,

We had a wonderful “launch” event for the CJE exhibit at Mount Allison last evening.  Thanks to MTA Library and Archives’ Marc Truitt and Laura Landon, the CJE panels were set up in an ideal location (the library’s entrance lobby) and a lecture space was arranged further into the library, where Dr. Corber gave an excellent talk to a very engaged audience of both community members and Mount Allison students and staff.  We even had a group from Moncton who had seen the CJE panels there but came to hear Dr. Corber’s lecture.  The combination of the exhibit and the lecture was great – and the reception afterwards was not bad either!  In all, it was a most rewarding event, and we thank you for the opportunity.

The panels will be in place for the next two weeks for everyone to explore.  Could you let us know where we should sent the panels once the exhibit period here at Mount Allison is over?

With best wishes from Mount Allison ~

Remembering Cecil Hart:
Surprise Visit of the Stanley Cup and Guy Lafleur

1883 t0 1924

On Thursday, December 14, 2017, a special panel was dedicated to honour Cecil Hart, the Jewish coach and general manger of the Montreal Canadiens. The celebration took place at Library and Archives Canada (LAC), an event leading to the NHL 100 Classic Game, between the Montreal Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators.

The “Remembering Cecil Hart” panel was created by the Canadian Jewish Experience (CJE), a volunteer organization created to celebrate Canada’s sesquicentennial, by telling some of the many Jewish contributions to Canada, its growth and development. Both Hart Trophies were present at the event and a surprise visit by the Stanley Cup was appreciated by the many guests, who enjoyed meeting Guy Lafleur in person and taking photos with him. The first recipient of the Hart Trophy in 1924 was Frank Nigbor from the Sens, a fitting event to celebrate both teams ahead of the game.

April 2, 2017

The culmination of a great deal of hard work by a small and dedicated Committee led by Ms. Tova Lynch, the impressive Exhibit comprising nine inspiring panels, entitled the “Canadian Jewish Experience: A Tribute to Canada 150”, was unveiled April 2, 2017 in the lobby of a National Capital Commission (NCC) building at 30 Metcalfe Street, Ottawa, not very far from Parliament Hill. The Exhibit can also be seen and appreciated at the Canadian War Museum, 1 Vimy Pl, Ottawa, at Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa and soon in 17 cities across Canada. Amazing!
